No Wreath For Required

Well, it's been given a new life thanks to some festive picks that I found at Home Depot. Christmas is all about glitter for me, so I grabbed a few packs of these babies and got to work.

First, I attached some pipe cleaners to the wheel form so I'd have a place to secure branches. (Don't worry, if you don't have a wheel form like this. You could use an old wood wheel, a round window, an antique wooden sieve - basically anything round that you can attach stuff to.)

I had some flocked pine on hand that I used as my base.

I just worked around the wheel attaching the branches until it was completely covered.

Once the pine was secure, I began adding my glittery picks, tucking and fluffing until everything was in place.

After that, it was complete!

A festive wreath without a wreath base or form. Pretty fantastic, right?

The colors are perfect in my space and add a touch of holiday cheer.

When the season is over, I just need to cut the pipe cleaners on the back, and it will come apart as quickly as it came together.

I love that wreaths are finding their way from the front door to practically every room in the house. And when you’re creating a wreath to celebrate the season or a special occasion, you’re only limited by your imagination. You can find even more wreath ideas in The Home Depot Fall Style Guide.

What fun and festive projects are you working on? What are some creative ways you've used wreaths in your home decor?

Spiced Winter Warm-Up with Silk

The folks at Silk have made creating unique drinks (with or without booze) a breeze with their Silkology Facebook page full of fabulous recipes. The other night, while watching a Christmas movie on the Hallmark Channel, I decided to whip up a drink of my own, a Spiced Winter Warm-Up. The mix of orange, almond milk, and a little nutmeg was heaven!

Here's what you'll need:

Spiced Winter Warm-Up
4 oz. Silk Vanilla soymilk, almondmilk, or coconutmilk
1 oz. spiced Scotch Liqueur such as Drambuie
1/2 oz. freshly squeezed orange juice or orange simple syrup*
2 dashes orange bitters
Grated nutmeg for garnish

Spiced Winter Warm-Up (Non-Alcoholic)
4 oz. Silk Vanilla soymilk, almondmilk, or coconutmilk
1/2 oz. freshly squeezed orange juice or orange simple syrup*
2 dashes orange bitters**
Grated nutmeg for garnish

Let's get cooking:

Place all ingredients except nutmeg in a saucepan and heat just until warm. Pour into a mug and garnish with grated nutmeg.
*Orange simple syrup: Dissolve 1 tablespoon sugar in 1 tablespoon hot water and add 1 tablespoon orange juice. Measure amount needed. **Adds a trivial amount of alcohol

Oh, and if you have a fantastic recipe of your own, you must enter the recipe contest on the Silk Facebook page. Everyone who enters the contest receives an apron from Silk. Three grand-prize winners will receive a KtichenAid Mixer and a free year of Silk! Sweet! Love that.

Also, don't forget to check out Silk’s Facebook page for discount coupons and all 16 Winter Drinks from their master Silkologist.

So prop up your feet and enjoy a cup of holiday cheer!

Berry Mint Chocolate Bliss // Silkology

After looking through all the fabulous drink ideas, I settled on the Berry Mint Chocolate Bliss. A drink with chocolate pieces in it!? Yes please.

I gathered all my ingredients (included my little dark chocolate chips), my blender, and got to mixing!

Here's what you'll need:

3/4 cup Silk soymilk or almondmilk, any flavor
1 fresh mint leaf
1/2 Tbsp chocolate chips
1/2 cups frozen raspberries
1 Tbsp maple syrup
1/2 Tbsp almonds
1 fresh mint leaf for garnish

Then:
In a blender or food processor, blend all ingredients. Serve garnished with a mint leaf.

It's seriously that easy! And not only did this concoction satisfy my sweet tooth, it left me feeling refreshed and energized. Perfect!

Personally, I think these would be a huge hit at a party or family gathering. Trick your friends and family into this healthy treat instead of something loaded with sugar, fat, and calories. Trust me, they won't know the difference!

Head on over to the interactive Silkologoy Facebook page to check out all the delicious drinks!

Silk inspired me to think outside of the bowl with their new Silkology-inspired drink recipes. Tell me something new you want to try this summer when entertaining to win a Silkology prize package.
